Crowds appear to be steering clear of South Shields seafront as mass gatherings fail to materialise

Gazette photographer Frank Reid has been out and about along the promenade, but his pictures show an almost deserted seafront.

Mass gatherings on the beach advertised on-line seem to have been a flop, perhaps due to a visible police presence.
