Emergency services called to help woman in distress near Souter Lighthouse

Emergency services have helped a missing woman who was found in distress near to Souter Lighthouse.

South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade and Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team were called by Northumbria Police to help find a vulnerable woman who was missing in the area of Souter Lighthouse, at around 9pm on Thursday, February 20.

After a search of the coastline from Marsden to Whitburn, which was assisted by the National Police Air Service HQ, the woman was found on an beach and received first aid at the scene by teams until an ambulance arrived.

Due to the location, the woman was then taken by the Sunderland inshore lifeboat to Sunderland Marina where she was transported to hospital by ambulance crews.

Members of the public are being reminded by coastguard teams that in all coastal emergencies they should remember to call 999 and then ask for the assistance of the Coastguard.
