Freemasons bring festive joy to vulnerable elderly people in South Shields

After teaming up with Age Concern and Sight Service, the South Shields Freemasons were able to put on a Christmas party for the older generation at the Freemason’s Hall in the town.

The event was held on Thursday, December 19, and featured entertainment from NU Dance, based in South Shields.

Guests were also treated to a three course meal and a visit from Santa where they all received a present.

The event has been organised and paid for by the Freemasons for a number of years to help bring festive cheer to the elderly community.

Freemason Gordon Finch said: “We have held raffles and fundraising activities to raise funds to put on the party for vulnerable elderly people.

“We invited people from Age Concern and Sight Service and the party was well attended. The CEO of Age Concern came down to thank us personally and we have had great feed back from sight services and St Stephen’s Church and Hilda’s Church. It was a fantastic day.”

Freemasons come from all walks of life and are active in promoting a culture of integrity, charity and community responsibility.

The South Shields Freemasons work to raise funds for projects to benefit the community and earlier this year they created a tribute to those who lost their lives during the First World War by unveiling a bench in Harton Cemetery, South Shields.
