I'm A Celebrity 2020 to take place in the UK countryside rather than the Australian jungle

ITV bosses have confirmed that the upcoming series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here will be filmed in the UK rather than Australia due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Rather than the Australian jungle, the show is set to be broadcast live every night from a ruined castle in the UK countryside – although bosses are remaining tight-lipped about the location.

Newcastle-born duo Ant and Dec will return to host the series and the winner will be crowded king or queen of the castle, rather than the jungle.

Bosses have said that despite the drastic change in location the show will have the same “tone and feel” with gruelling challenges to win meals for the camp.

ITV’s director of entertainment, Richard Cowles revealed the decision was made after the current coronavirus crisis made filming in Australia impossible.

He said: “We pulled out all the stops to try and make the series happen in Australia.

“Unfortunately, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and despite us looking at many different contingencies, it became apparent that it just wasn’t possible for us to travel and make the show there.

“Our celebrities will probably have to swap shorts for thermals but they can still look forward to a basic diet of rice and beans and plenty of thrills and surprises along the way.”
