Man brought to safety from Marsden Cliffs

A man found on the cliffs at Marsden has been brought to safety following reports of concern.

Emergency services were called to Marsden Cliffs shortly after midnight on Tuesday, August 4, to reports of concern for a 32-year-old man.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Just after midnight police received a report of a concern for a 32-year-old man who was at Marsden Cliffs in South Shields. Emergency services attended and found the man on the cliffs.

"Specialist negotiators attended the scene and were supported by Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service before the man was eventually brought to safety.”

North East Ambulance Service, Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team and South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade were also called to assist Nortumbria Police.

Emergency services and specialist negotiators were at the scene for around three hours before the man was eventually brought to safety.
