Meet the Newcastle United fan from South Shields who scored the lucky ticket to win Alan Shearer's raffle

Gary Moseley, from Biddick Hall, South Shields, was the lucky winner of a charity prize draw to win the shirt, boots and armband worn by the former Newcastle captain when he scored his 250th Premier League goal.

Gary, 27, had entered the competition after seeing Alan Shearer Tweet about the draw following Newcastle United's win at home against Southampton.

The Toon fan bought just one £10 ticket and couldn’t believe his luck when his name was picked out from thousands of other supporters in the draw on Tuesday, February 23.

He said: “I was over the moon, as I just didn’t expect it.

"I have supported Newcastle all my life and have had a season ticket for the last 15 years."

He added: "It is the top he wore when he scored his 250th Premier League goal and no one else has done that, he’s the first, so it’s a unique item.”

The competition raised £129,990 for the Alan Shearer Foundation and now Gary will get to meet Alan Shearer when he goes to collect his prize at the foundation in Newcastle.

Gary, who works for South Tyneside Homes, said: “Even just to get my name mentioned by him [Shearer] on Twitter, that was rewarding enough, so to actually get to meet him seems unreal.

"I have had a lot of phone calls asking me if I need lifts to the foundation when I collect it!

"I think I will be a little bit starstruck when I meet him.”

A spokeswoman for the Alan Shearer Foundation said: “Like most charities, the Alan Shearer Foundation struggled to raise funds in the usual way during the pandemic.

"To help us, Alan handed us a lifeline by donating his match shirt, boots and captain’s armband - all of which he wore when he scored his 250th Premier League goal.

"The interest and support in our prize draw exceeded all expectations and we are extremely grateful to everyone who bought a ticket, helping us to raise an amazing grand total of £129,990.

"Every penny raised will now go directly to the Alan Shearer Activity Centre; a highly specialised residential and social provision for people with complex disabilities and acute sensory impairments for the upkeep and running costs.”
