Mothercare signs deal with Boots in bid to keep selling products

As Mothercare closes its stores, the retailer has signed an exclusive deal with Boots in the hopes that its mother and baby clothes will continue to be sold in the UK.

The retailer has signed an exclusive deal with Boots.

The firms have confirmed, on Friday December 13, that they have signed a deal just more than a month since Mothercare went into administration.

The UK health and beauty chain, Boots, will start stocking Mothercare-branded products from the end of next summer.

All 79 of its stores will shut as part of the administration process, putting 2,500 jobs at risk.

Boots are set to sell Mothercare-branded products such as clothing, home products, pushchairs and car seats online and in store.

They already sell Mothercare's Mini Club range in their larger stores.

The deal means that Boots will be the only place available to buy these products.

However, it has yet to be finalised, so it is not known how many Boots stores will offer them.

Chief Executive of Mothercare, Mark Newton-Jones, said: "In Boots, another much-loved British heritage brand, we believe that Mothercare has found the right home in the UK.

"Today's announcement is fantastic news for the brand and the millions of Mothercare customers across the UK.

“It is also great news for Mothercare and our wider group of stakeholders after what has been a tough period.

"As we reduced the store estate, we did not see sufficient trade transfer to the remaining stores or move online.

"As consumers watched their local stores close, we struggled with the misperception that Mothercare in its entirety had gone out of business."
