Into The Studio’s cash boost will see it give young people experience of performing and being part of a professional recording experience.

Its founders will do this by opening a studio at Perth Green Community Centre, in Inverness Road, Jarrow, to act as a central hub to support up-and-coming musicians.

Open seven days a week, it will provide a specialist learning environment for vocal and music lessons, and in production techniques, for solo artists and bands.

It has high-pedigree backing – its music producer Tom Compton is a prodigy of Pete Day, a studio engineer who has worked with Kylie, Bananarama and Rick Astley.

And Elaine Rennie, a runner-up on TV’s Stars In Their Eyes talent contest, will be a performance coach.

Co-founder Ian Curry said: “We aim to provide a service and facilities, possibly working in partnership with other community groups.

“This will allow us to get the most out of our proposed facilities and share resources and musical experience so that everyone can benefit.

“We also aim to teach people how to operate equipment, which may see us work with other groups in the community who have similar aims.

“We hope to recruit volunteer singing and music coaches, and interest has already been expressed from several qualified musicians.”

Ian added: “We are also looking to obtain further funding, part of which would pay for equipment to help us to engage with people in the wider community.

“With a recording studio in hand, we will provide a dedicated service to the community in South Tyneside and across the North East.

“It will mean there is an industry-standard commercial recording facility on their doorstep. We also plan to put on shows at community venues.”

Into The Studio’s backers are also behind Into The Spotlight, a live performance initiative in South Tyneside and the wider North East.

Into the Spotlight youth representatives Jenny Callaghan and Daniel James Curry, and girl group The Angels and performer Brandon Ward, are involved in the new project.

Funding was provided by Amjid Hussain, of social enterprise development group UnLtd, and Jarrow Big local.
