New charity run is revealed in memory of Bradley Lowery - and here's how you can join in

A new charity run for all the family has been revealed by the Bradley Lowery Foundation.

It will be held on Sunday, March 29, next year and runners of all abilities can enter one of three events at Herrington Country Park.

The event will raise funds for the charity founded following the death of Bradley Lowery in 2017.

The fun run has room for 2,000 entrants who can choose between a 1 mile, 5km or 10km course. Two years after Bradley’s passing on July 7, 2017, his mum Gemma has turned the tragedy of his short life into a beacon of hope for other youngsters with life-limiting conditions.

Since it was founded, the charity has raised more than £3million for dozens of poorly children.

It has also established a dedicated support line for the families of children with cancer, donated huge sums of money to researching childhood cancers and campaigned for new drugs to be introduced in the UK.

It also plans to build a holiday home for sick children and their families in Scarborough.

Gemma Lowery, founder of the Bradley Lowery Foundation, and Bradley’s mum, said: “We’re really excited to be launching Run for Brad, which will ensure the foundation is able to continue supporting poorly children across the UK, to get the care and support they need and deserve.

“Even if, like me, you’re not much of a runner, we’d love you to get involved. It doesn’t have to be a manic sprint but it is for a fantastic cause.”

The entry fee is £25 per runner, runners are encouraged to raise funds but it is not essential.

The Bradley Lowery Foundation was established in August 2017 after Bradley, lost his fight to neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of childhood cancer.

In 2013 his mum, Gemma, started a fundraising campaign to raise funds to get Bradley treatment in the USA, which was not available in the UK.

The campaign was very successful and with the support off thousands of people, raised over £1.3m, as well as vital awareness for neuroblastoma and childhood cancer in general. The donations provided the funding base for the charity.

The Bradley Lowery Foundation aims to support families who are fundraising for treatment or equipment, which is not readily available or covered by the NHS. This includes all illnesses and conditions.

Bradley touched the hearts of people all over the world and in 2014, he was the winner of a Best of Hartlepool Child of Courage Award.

Three years later, he was chosen as the winner of a Child of Courage trophy at the Best of Wearside Awards.
