John Rainsforth’s striking shots of The Customs House in South Shields – which were taken during the coronavirus lockdown – are now available to buy online, with profits from sales going towards the theatre’s charitable trust.
Thirty-year-old John, who usually works as a theatrical lighting designer and touring head of lighting for musicals, has been developing his photography skills during lockdown and took the pictures of The Customs House while out on a daily walk.

I was always thinking of ways I can help and it wasn’t until Jordan Embleton at Photo by Jordan, also technical manager at The Customs House, contacted me offering printing services.
"Selling my images is never something I thought of doing really but thought, if it can raise something for The Customs House, then why not?”
There are three photographs raising money for The Customs House – one in black and white and two in colour showing different views.
All cost £10 and once printing costs and PayPal’s commission are deducted, £7.41 per print goes to the theatre’s charity.
