Police patrol a silent Stadium of Light as Sunderland fans heed stay at home message despite Wembley victory

This evening, though, the home of the Black Cats was eerily silent, a few police vehicles standing guard just in case any crowds did turn out as covid restrictions barring gatherings remain in place.

She said: "Whatever you’re celebrating, make sure you do it safely and stay at home to help us keep moving in the right direction.”

Congratulation SAFC after the win, Sunderland City Council tweeted: “However you’re celebrating please do it sensibly at home.

“We must all do our bit to protect ourselves, those around us and our communities.”
