Trustees at Hedworthfield Community Association in Jarrow put an appeal out for donations and Fellgate Primary stepped up, collecting essentials as well as a few sweets and chocolates too.

The school’s Christmas song for 2020 is Feed the World and they are taking the message of the song seriously. The association has been running the scheme since Covid took hold, helping the elderly and those just in need of a little help in Fellgate, Hedworth and Calf Close.

The school presented the association with a thank you card for what they’ve been doing, as well as their sizeable donation to the foodbank.

Helen Towers, family support worker at Fellgate Primary said: “Hedworthfield CA supported our school community during lockdown and across the summer.

“Many of our families faced some financial difficulties and they provided them with Morrisons food deliveries, winter coats etc.

“After a suggestion from a parent, we decided to help them for a change. We asked our parents for donations of chocolate and sweets which we would donate to the CA and they could distribute to families in the local area at Christmas time.”
