The vehicles were first spotted near the Trimmers Arms in the Holborn area on Wednesday, August 5 – and more than two weeks on the vehicles remain on the council-owned site.
Disgruntled residents made complaints to South Tyneside Council which said it has been monitoring the situation since the travellers’ caravans first arrived on the council land at the back of Commercial Road over two weeks ago.
And steps have now been taken to remove the vehicles and their occupants from the site.
