South Tyneside four-year-old gives away her toys 'to make other girls and boys happy' during Covid-19 lockdown

Four year-old Mia-Angelito Wheatman of Fellgate has been leaving her most treasured possessions outside her house, to cheer up other children who might need them more.

It comes as the Gazette is highlighting how the borough has rallied together to support each other during the coronavirus in our #actofkindness campaign.

It’s her way of making them happy, as well as being the best she can to see other youngsters while she’s missing her friends, who are also having to stay at home. Mia-Angelito lives with her mam Lisamarie and grandmother, Maria Wheatman.

Maria explained: “I’ve had a birthday since the lockdown started and people left presents on my doorstep.

“So Mia said ‘I would like to give people presents. Some little boy or girl might like that’.

“I wrote a sign for her saying ‘Please take a book or toy you might enjoy during lockdown.’ This is even the stuff she loves. Children have been taking stuff and she’s just so happy to see them. It’s been her way of seeing other children.

“She understands coronavirus in her own way. It’s very hard for children right now.”

Mia, a pupil at the Little Acorns Preschool in East Boldon, has always been very caring.

Maria said: “She’s got a very loving personality. Whenever someone new starts at the nursery, she’s always there to take them under her wing.”
