The proposals for the Glassworks project have been submitted for the Harton Quay area of the town, with a brownfield plot earmarked for the five storey landmark development.
South Tyneside Council, which has put together the plans alongside its development partner Muse, say it would feature basement parking, a reception area offering co-working space and coffee bar, and a roof terrace with panoramic views across the River Tyne.

The southern part of the site would feature a landscaped area leading down to the Grade II-listed Customs House and Harton Quays Park, linking to the town centre and providing visitors and workers with an outdoor space to enjoy.
Images released by the council show the building would be constructed next door to the BT offices and just a short distance away from the Shields Ferry landing.
If approved, the development would transform vacant brownfield land and would acknowledge the site’s industrial heritage by retaining the chimney and historic wall from the former Swinburne Glassworks.

The council has said application will be considered by its planning committee in due course.
David Wells, Regional Director at Muse Developments, has previously described the Glassworks project as “a stunning building that blends the town’s heritage with the its aspirations for the future.
Speaking when the plan was first announced, he said: “This new building will repuropose a key area in South Tyneside and create a vibrant waterside office community in the heart of the town.
