Photographer has no regrets after expanding business during economic downturn

 Judith Graham took the decision to move her studio from Tyne Terrace, in South Shields, to Mountbatten Avenue, in Hebburn.

The relocation saw her studio size treble, enabling her to offer more services including themed photoshoots to customers.

It was a move the photographer says she has never regretted as she celebrates five “successful” years in business within the studio, this month.

Judith’s love for photography started when she was 11 years old after she was handed her first camera.

Ten years ago she launched her business venture Village Photography alongside her father Derek.

Judith said: “I don’t regret moving studios as being in Hebburn has enabled me to offer so much more to my customers.

“The studio in South Shields was suitable when I first set up, but as the years went by it become no longer fit for purpose if I was to expand.

“Being based in Hebburn saw the number of photo shoots increase year on year, with 526 photo shoots last year, in South Shields we were averaging 60 to 70 per year.

“The Hebburn studio has also enabled me to purchase costumes and our LED inflatable photobooths.”

To mark the fifth anniversary of calling the Mountbatten studio home, Judith has branched out into pet portraits and is undergoing training in new born baby photography.

She added: “I am constantly looking at new services to deliver to my customers and new courses. The world of photography is ever-changing and you are constantly learning. With the new born babies it’s not just about taking the photographs, it’s about making sure the baby is safe while you do so and comfortable.”

Over the years, as well as offering wedding and themed photoshoots, portraits and pet portraits, Judith has also been the photographer of choice at events including the South Shields Lectures for David Miliband.

Judith has also been a strong supporter of South Tyneside’s own X-Factor stars Joe McElderry and Jade Thirlwall.

She also uses her photography skills to help charities raise funds as well as runs regularly fundraisers herself.

She is currently hoping to raise cash for St Clare’s Hospice, Bryson Animal charity, Alzheimer’s Society and the Cruse Crew.
