Fowler Street fire: Pictures from the scene as investigation launched into South Shields blaze

The roof of a listed building in South Shields has been damaged in a blaze which saw firefighters at the scene for around four hours.

Crews were called to the Victoria Hall building in the town’s Fowler Street at around 11pm on Saturday, May 29. They remained in the area until around 3am on Sunday, May 30 when the fire was brought under control.

Previously home to a number of businesses – including popular restaurants Casa Rosa and La Rossa – the Grade-II listed building dates back to 1896.

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service has launched an investigation into the incident, with support from Northumbria Police.
