Plans to create more social housing in Jarrow are given the green light
South Tyneside Council has approved plans to create more social housing.
More social housing is set to be built in Jarrow after South Tyneside Council approved plans to create seven two-bedroomed bungalows for social rent.
Planning permission has been granted to build the new houses on Trent Drive.
The local authority has stated that the homes will be for people aged 55 and over - with two of the homes set to be fully accessible with wheelchair access.

According to the plans, the homes will be arranged in two terraces, forming an internal communal courtyard, with parking spaces.
Cllr Jane Carter, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council with responsibility for Housing, has stated that the new homes will help the local authority deliver on its ambitions of creating “strong communities”.
She said: “We know there is a real demand for bungalows across the borough, so this scheme will help meet local housing need.
“It will be in a popular residential location with easy access to public transport and facilities.

“These homes are all for social rent and will help us to deliver on our ambition of creating strong communities where people live in sustainable, safe and connected neighbourhoods.”
South Tyneside Council has confirmed that more on the new development will get underway in 2026.
