Emergency services have been called out after a car overturned in a South Shields street this morning.

It happened in Galsworthy Road shortly before 10am.

The black Nissan can be seen upside down with police officers attending the scene.

Witness Ian Wilson, 69, who lives in nearby Chaucer Avenue, said: "I heard a screech earlier on so went round to see what had happened.

"The police and an ambulance have been out but I don't know if anyone's been injured or anything.

"No-one seems to know exactly what went on."

A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said that no-one was injured in the incident and the road has now been cleared.

She said: “At 9.55am on today, police received a report of a one-vehicle road traffic collision on Galsworthy Road in South Shields.

“Emergency services attended but nobody was believed to be injured in the incident.

“The road has since been cleared.”
