Police search River Tyne for man believed to have fallen in the water

Officers received a report at 3:59am of concern for a man seen on the wrong side of the railings on the Tyne Bridge.

Police attended the scene, however there was no sign of the man.

After checking CCTV cameras in the area officers believe that the man may have fallen from the bridge into the river.

Enquiries are being carried out this morning, including checks of the river by police and the fire service.
