'Could not be prouder' - Jarrow MP Kate Osborne reacts to Hebburn Town's historic Wembley win in FA Vase final


The dramatic final saw Hebburn clinch victory to lift the trophy with just six minutes left as substitute Olly Martin wrote his name into the history books.

Hide AdKate Osborne MP represents the town of Hebburn as part of her Jarrow constituency.


She has been a vocal supporter of Hebburn Town in the build up to the game and was delighted to see the Hornets celebrate victory at Wembley.
She tweeted: "What a result! Huge congratulations to Hebburn Town on their wonderful win in the FA Vase final at Wembley today.
“Could not be prouder to represent this area and each and every one of you have done the town of Hebburn so proud. Enjoy and savour every moment!”

Hide AdKate Osborne MP had pushed the Government to make changes in order to allow fans to attend the game, but ultimately with no supporters were in attendance for the game.
The match was, however, aired for free on BT Sport, meaning fans could cheer on the team from back home.
This included hundreds of Hebburn Town fans who attended the club’s ground at Hebburn Sports Club to watch the game on a big screen outdoors.
Households and businesses had pulled out all the stops to show their support for The Hornets, with homes, shops and offices decked out in black and yellow – the club colours – as well as banners, bows and bunting placed around the town.

Hide AdFlags were flown from public buildings, and South Shields town hall lit up in black and yellow stripes, with eletronic boards displaying good luck messages dotted around the borough’s main roads.
Mayor of South Tyneside, Norman Dick, also praised the team on their brilliant performance, he said:
“The Mayoress and I would like to congratulate Hebburn Town FC on winning the FA Vase final at Wembley – what a remarkable achievement!”
