Developers submitted an application to convert the former Leannes clothing shop near Chichester into new business units to South Tyneside Council’s planning department.

The plans for 172 Dean Road, which is in the Westoe council ward, include separating the shop into two premises to create two new business uses, a barbers and a shawarma kebab shop.

As part of the works, a new cooking ventilation extraction system is proposed for the hot food use.

A planning application submitted to local authority officials also provides more details on the development.

This includes plans to separate the premises using a plasterboard and timber wall as well as creating two separate entrance doors and metal roller shutters for “additional security”.

Elsewhere, the planning application confirms the development would create five jobs, including two full-time and three part-time roles.

Submitted plans show signage which names the two businesses as ‘5 Barber’ and ‘Best Doner’.

Proposed opening hours are also set out for both businesses, with the barbers intending to open between 9am-6pm, Monday to Saturday.

Opening hours for the kebab shop, if approved, would be 10am-7pm, seven days a week and on bank holidays.

A decision on the plans will be made by South Tyneside Council once a period of consultation has concluded.
