Reporter Chris Binding from the count: “That’s the first round of results dealt with, the rest will be announced later with all (hopefully) by 5am.
“Labour have held onto eight out of 10 seats announced so far.
“The Green Party gained in Beacon and Bents and Conservative gained in Cleadon and East Boldon.”
Audrey Elizabeth Fay (Huntley) has regained her seat in the Fellgate and Hedworth ward after losing it in the 2019 elections. “Thank you to everyone who voted for putting their trust back in me again”, she said
“It’s all down to really hard work and understanding the people of our ward and their needs, we have a great team with my agent Jay and Cllr Geraldine Kilgour.”
Audrey also pledged to carry on the legacy of former Labour ward councillor Alan Smith who sadly passed away last year. “It’s really sad and we miss him immensely, he was really well respected in the ward and I hope we can continue that legacy,” she added.
