Earlier this month, South Tyneside Council approved proposals from health bosses for the Talbot Medical Centre off Stanley Street.

Plans included a single storey extension with a new roof and windows to provide “additional consulting rooms.”

Although the entrance to the family practice will remain unchanged, around three designated parking spaces will be lost at the site.

A council report adds that extra parking “can be accommodated within the surrounding area without detriment to highway safety.”

Following consultation, the council’s planning authority approved the plans on Friday, February 14

Talbot Medical Centre is based in the Tyne Dock area of South Shields and opens on weekdays.

The new extension is expected to create three jobs, including two new clinical roles.

Under planning conditions, extension works must start within the next three years.
