Traffic light repairs needed after incident in South Shields
Repair work has taken place after a set of traffic lights was knocked over in South Shields
The Gazette was sent pictures of the damaged traffic lights at the junction of the B1303 and Ocean Road in South Shields after a suspected incident on March 18.
A South Tyneside Council spokesperson said it was not known how the damage occurred, but teams were dispatched to make the area safe and carry out repairs.
The spokesperson said: “Traffic lights in South Tyneside are maintained by the Regional Traffic Signal Service based in Newcastle.
“A member of the council’s highways construction team reported the damage to the signal pole on Thursday afternoon and Regional Traffic Signals attended the site to make it safe and carry out the necessary repairs.
“It is not yet known how the lights came to be damaged in this way, however we are supporting Regional Traffic Signals with their enquiries.”
