Jarrow MP Kate Osborne opens HQ after lockdown stalled constituency office opening
South Tyneside’s newest MP has finally set up her new office after the pandemic stalled plans to establish an HQ in her constituency.
Jarrow MP Kate Osborne was elected in December 2019’s General Election, but had been without an office in the constituency when the UK went into lockdown just months later.
As well as concern for her constituents safety, the pandemic has been very close to home for the MP.
Kate was among the first cases in the UK when she tested positive in March, and went into self-isolation.
The MP’s new offices are at The Clervaux Exchange, Clervaux Terrace, close to Jarrow town centre.
Kate said although her team have not been in an office premises, they have remained active in support of her constituents throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
The MP and her team have held regular surgeries and meetings via telephone and Zoom, as well as working through what she described as “an unprecedented volume of casework” by email.
She said: “I am pleased to finally have a permanent office in the Jarrow constituency. I have looked long and hard for a suitable office and I am really proud to have a constituency office set up at The Clervaux Exchange to assist my constituents.
“The office is a visible sign of my further commitment to the Jarrow constituency. These unprecedented times have been difficult for so many people and my new office means we will be able to give people more help if they need it.”
Despite moving in, Kate’s constituency office will be closed to members of the public for the time being due to the pandemic.
