Popular South Shields dinner lady retires after 27 years

A popular dinner lady served her last meal this week after retiring from the school where she has spent the last 27 years.

Ashley Primary School dinner lady Veronica Wilkinson bid farewell to pupils at the school on Temple Park Road, South Shields, on Tuesday, as she leaves to enjoy a well-earned retirement

Mrs Wilkinson, 70, from Fenwick Avenue, South Shields, joined the school in 1989 and has been at the school ever since.

She said she was sad to leave the school: “I have been there a long time and will miss the kids and people I have worked with, but my husband has been retired a long time, so it will be nice to enjoy my time with him.”
