Popular South Shields pub set to re-open its doors

Glen Winlow has taken over the running of The Maltings based in Claypath Lane in South Shields.

After a refurbishment of the property he is now preparing to once again open its doors to the public.

The former owner of Bar Nine in Dean Road, South Shields said: “The Maltings is a wonderful bar and was quite popular before it closed.

“It’s no longer a real ale bar, but there will be real ale available as well as a range of lagers, beers and cocktails.

“It has a great reputation and this is a massive opportunity. I have always managed bars but this is a step into owning a bar aswell.

“There has been a lot of elbow grease gone into giving this bar a new lease of life.”

Mr Winlow plans on showing sports as well as run busker nights, live music and acoustic sessions and Irish music nights during the week as part of his plans to revamp the venue.

He added: “We have all of our staff and plans in place and we’re all ready to go.

“There’s a lot of excitement around the opening and we can’t wait to welcome people into the bar.”

The Maltings ceased trading in October after borough businessman Jess McConnell, who owned the Maltings, declared himself bankrupt.

The Maltings will re-open on Friday at 6pm with a launch party.

The pub will then open from 4.30pm until Midnight Monday to Thursday; 4.30pm until 1am on Friday and Saturday and until 11pm on Sundays.
