Northern Powergrid which is in charge of the distribution network, has said 240 premises across the postcodes remained affected until 1.08pm, with 49 properties in Boldon Lane, Cleadon, still without power.
It is not yet known how long it will be before the final premises are reconnected to the system, although its website has suggested it could be around 3.30pm.
It said the problems were caused by underground high-voltage cables, with engineers working to resolve the powercut and establish what repairs are needed to the damaged equipment.
