Newcastle United have been credited with an interest in Yoshinori Muto.
West Ham United have also been linked with a summer swoop for the Mainz forward.
He was part of the Japan side that caught the eye at the recent World Cup and Mainz are said to be considering selling him this summer.
Muto has yet to report back to pre-season training after an extended holiday but German paper Bild say he may leave this summer.
West Ham and Newcastle are named as holding an interest in Muto.
