Pupils at South Shields school are just quality

Hadrian Primary, in Fort Street, South Shields, is now the proud holder of a Basic Skills Primary Quality Mark.

The accolade promotes, supports and celebrates progress and improvements made by a school in English and maths.

The award, issued by the Alliance for Lifelong Learning, was presented to the school following an assessment carried out by an external assessor, who looked at aspects of the school and the curriculum.

Parents, staff and children, governors and senior leadership team were all spoken to.

Assessor Angela Andrews said: “There is an outstanding ‘whole school’ strategy and planning to improve performance in basic skills.

“It is based on self-evaluation and takes into account the performance and needs of different groups of pupils. There are realistic and measurable targets for improving performance.”

In order to be awarded the quality mark, a school must meet all 10 elements set out as part of the assessment criteria, including demonstrating a whole school approach to improving standards in literacy and numeracy, with evidence of the impact of its approaches.

Headteacher Scott Brown said: “I am delighted that the hard work and dedication of staff has been recognised by this prestigious award.

“Teachers work incredibly hard to ensure that we provide an interesting, stimulating and accessible

curriculum for all of our children.

“The basic skills award recognises the efforts of all of our staff.”
