Puppies need new walkers

Our dogs start preparing for their important role from when they are tiny puppies by being introduced to a variety social situations and places among other things.

Our amazing army of volunteer puppy walkers make this happen by taking pups into their homes from the age of six weeks and caring for them until they go onto further training at about 14 months. We need to add to their ranks particularly in South Shields.

Puppy walking is a demanding but hugely rewarding volunteer role.

We ask that you don’t leave the pup for more than a couple of hours, particularly in the early days, and that you have a private enclosed garden with a hard area for the pup to ‘do their business’.

We also ask you to attend monthly puppy classes and have regular meetings with our Puppy Walking Trainers.

In return you will have the pleasure of seeing a cute little pup grow and develop into the fledgling guide dog who will make such a difference to someone’s life.
