Fernandez and goalkeeper Nathan Harker, also 19, took part in today's double session ahead of the game.

Benitez decided to call upon Fernandez, signed from UE Cornella Youth just over a year ago, after speaking to Under-23s coach Ben Dawson.

Asked about Fernandez, United manager Benitez said: "We have some young players coming with us during the season.

"Here, we needed to bring a couple of them. We were talking with Ben. He (Fernandez) can play in three for four positions, so he was a good option. He's doing well, he's training well.

"The young players are shy at the beginning, but little by little, they are giving us what we are expecting from them."
