Allardyce has emerged as one of the favourites for the job after Roy Hodgson stepped down following the ignominious Euro 2016 exit.

The Black Cats boss has long wanted the prestigious post, and missed out to Steve McClaren 10 years ago.

And a report in The Sun today claimed the 62-year-old has held preliminary talks with the FA over the job.

The report also claims that Allardyce has a break clause in his Sunderland contract which would allow him to leave for the Three Lions.

Allardyce has one year left on his deal at the Stadium of Light.
