Santa Claus or Mrs Claus: Should Father Christmas be allowed to be played by a woman?

The man in the red suit has a variety of names. But with Christmas less than four weeks away, a row has erupted at a town council as to whether or not the famous festive role can be taken on by a woman. As reported nationally, and on Good Morning Britain today, Great Aycliffe Town Council are to vote on whether or not a female volunteer can act as Santa, after two women applied to appear as the character on Christmas Eve.
