School pupils shine like stars as they take to the stage

Pupils from Hadrian Primary School took part in their annual showcase at the Customs House, in South Shields.

The show was the seventh from the school, in the town’s Baring Street, and aims to give youngsters a chance to show off their performance skills.

Pupils from Reception through to Year 6 put on singing, dancing, and samba drumming displays for a crowd of their teachers and loved ones.

Parent Gillian Anderson said: “It was such a wonderful night. I laughed and cried at our amazing children who shone like the stars that they are. I am so proud of Hadrian.”

Rachel Middis, arts co-ordinator at the school, added: “Both the children and staff have worked tirelessly over recent months, at times in the face of adversity, to rehearse and execute our Summer Spectacular show.

“I am immensely proud of them all.”

Headteacher Scott Brown says the school strives to showcase the talents of its pupils and uses the annual showcase, at the theatre in Mill Dam, to let children explore creative activities and showcase what they can do.

Mr Brown said: “Performing at the Customs House is a wonderful experience for our children.

“They have worked so hard over the past few months developing their talents and discovering new ones they didn’t even know they had.

“To be able to share this with family and friends in a venue such as the Customs House is an amazing opportunity. We are so grateful to Ray Spencer and all of his staff for allowing our children to experience performing in a live theatre.”

Ray, executive director of the Customs House, added: “We’ve all been to those end-of-year performances at school halls, but the Customs House allows children to perform on a professional stage where everyone can see them and they can present themselves in the best way possible. Hadrian always do it really well.”
