The Star Wars-themed day, organised alongside the Aurora Sci-fi Club, saw people dressed as the likes of Stormtroopers and Darth Vader to browse for stalls and pose for pictures.

The Scifair event was held on Saturday at Primrose Community Centre in Lambton Terrace, Jarrow.

More than 500 people went along on the day and helped raised £200 for the Stroke Association.

One of the organisers, Keith Lawler, said: “It was brilliant. There were more than 500 people there, which was a lot more than I expected because it was a new venue.

“But we have costumers now who follow us around all the events and we had a lot of support from the community centre and the Primrose Parents’ Association as well.

“There were lots of smiling kids trying to get us with their lightsabers and they all loved it.”

The event sees people come from across the region to set up stalls selling collectibles, toys, comics, and books.

Keith added: “Everyone really got in the spirit and there were people dressed up as Stormtroopers, Darth Vadar, and Darth Maul, but people come dressed as all sort of things.

“We always have a theme, but people can come dressed as whoever or whatever they like.”

The next Scifair event is at Seaburn Leisure Centre on June 12, from 11am to 4pm.
