Seafront set to sparkle as last minute preparations are made for firework displays

South Tyneside Council has joined forces with Ocean Beach Pleasure Park in South Shields to host the free film-themed bonfire night this Sunday.

A short show will start at 6.30pm, with the main display at 8pm behind the fair in Sea Road.

The theme has been introduced to tie in with the return of the drive-in movies screenings in Bents Park, which is organised by the park’s bosses.

The first display will be accompanied by music from classic children’s movies, with the main event to feature soundtracks from a range of other films.

Councillor Alan Kerr, deputy leader of the council with responsibility for culture and leisure, said: “The annual fireworks display is always a wonderful family night out – so wrap up warm, come down to the seafront and enjoy the movie soundtracks while the sky is lit up.”

Visitors are advised to allow plenty time for travel as the roads will be busy and queues likely at the car parks.

Parking will be available at Bents Park for £2 per vehicle.

People are advised not to take fireworks or sparklers and to leave dogs at home.

Michael Sheeran, operator at Ocean Beach Pleasure Park, said: “The annual fireworks are always a spectacular way for families to enjoy a safe, controlled show, especially this year with more viewing areas along the regenerated promenade.

“The atmosphere within the Pleasure Park is always fabulous and the response of visitors really positive.

“The displays are always a great end to our outdoor season.”
