See if you recognise these fantastic gymnastics from South Tyneside stars

Today we look back at the stars of the Whitburn Gym Club, who in the 1970s and 80s were pictured taking part in British championships as well as heading off to Europe for a camping holiday and more.

One of our pictures shows six members of the club who competed in the British Under-15 team championships final at Alton, Hampshire, in 1978.

You can also see youngsters and adults from the club as they prepare to travel to Germany for the campsite in 1980.

During their stay they were planning to compete against local gym clubs and give demonstrations.

Another shows Kim Heatherington doing her floor exercise routine in 1979, while the photo on the left features three trophy winners from 1973.
