Community groups and schools are all being invited to take part in the event, which will see people of all ages walk the route from South Shields Town Hall to the Bents Park, via Fowler Street and Ocean Road.

In the run up to the event, the couple will be working with local schools, dance troupes and community groups to help them to develop creative ideas and choreography, as well as costume ideas and colourful decorations for the floats.

This year’s theme was chosen to celebrate the opening of The Word, National Centre of the Written Word in South Shields.

Speaking at the launch Mr Harris said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to bring to life an array of intriguing characters and exciting stories from children’s storytelling on the streets of South Shields.”
