Six-year-old girl taken to hospital after being knocked down by car

A six-year-old girl has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car on a residential street.

The incident took place on Souter View, Whitburn, at around 4.40pm on Monday, September 28.

Northumbria Police officers and the North East Ambulance Service were called to the scene and the young girl was taken to hospital with an injured arm.

The youngster’s next of kin are aware of the incident and her injuries are not life-threatening, police have confirmed.

An air ambulance was called to the scene but the Great North Air Ambulance Service have confirmed that the patient did not require airlifting to hospital.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “At 4.40pm today (Monday) we received a report that a car had been in collision with a child in the Souter View area of South Tyneside.

Emergency services attended and the girl, aged six, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries to her arm. Her next of kin are aware.”
