Slavisa Jokanovic explains the tactics behind classy Fulham's win over Newcastle

Jokanovic's side won 3-1 at St James's Park yesterday thanks to a strike from Tom Cairney and two goals from teenager Ryan Sessegnon.

Newcastle are still top of the Championship, but they only lead second-placed Brighton and Hove Albion by goal difference.

The result saw seventh-placed Fulham narrow the gap between themselves and the play-off to two points.

Manager Jokanovic said: "I believe Newcastle will be a Premier League team.

"They play different style of football. They are physical and a very strong team. We expected they were going to try to attack behind the full-backs, we avoided this kind of situation. After 36 games, I'm going to be really surprised if Newcastle don’t play in the Premier League.

"We played very good football. We tried to win the game. Our style, we move the ball, we had control. We were more clinical.

"I believe at the end my team deserved the result. It's a great step for us. Everything is open, some teams have more points than what we have right now.

"We are not in a position to think about being a promoted team, but we are going to push hard for the top six. If you have enough strength for this, then we have a 25% chance to be a Premier League team next season."

On 16-year-old Sessegnon's remarkable contribution, Jokanovic added: “Sessegnon is working very well.

"We tried to use him in a little bit of a different position, but in the past we have used him in more of an offensive position.

“We expected that he could find the space in behind the back four of Newcastle and he did that twice.

“He finished with a great level of quality, and he completed a very good football game and he must be satisfied with the team and himself too.”
