Gemma Drury, recruitment director said: “My father, who is one of the directors of the company, was originally a time served plater shipwright on the Tyne.

“He worked in the shipyards and then the emerging offshore building yards.

“We believe that, with his knowledge of the local area and his hands-on experience in the industry, that we can truly give something back to the engineering industry in south Tyneside and restore it to some of its former glory and the reputation it had all those years ago.”

To support the project, the firm has employed engineering consultant Jordan Vaughan who has hands on experience in the region’s engineering sector.

Mr Vaughan was recently made redundant from his position as a Plater at OGN on the river Tyne.

He said: “I’m very excited about this new challenge within engineering sectors.

“I believe we can make a difference in my home town of South Shields.

“We are critically aware the region has suffered hugely due to the fall in oil and gas prices globally.

“However, at Clark James we are doing our best to change this as the North East has always been arguably the heavy engineering and offshore centre in England.”

The accountancy firms were founded by Susan and Tom Trewitt more than 12 years ago.

Since then the company has grown - allowing it the scope to join forces with the recruitment firm.

Mrs Drury said: “We can now bring together the new recruitment legislation and accountancy services for our candidates whom already have a huge advantage in
their affairs are all under one roof.

“We genuinely want to give something back to South Tyneside and the region by maximising the skills we have here in the way of engineering on the rivers as well as in the offshore sectors.”
