South Shields funeral directors helps families and charities

Peter Johnson Funerals (PJF) organises a Christmas Celebration of Family Memories.

For many years, the firm has organised the annual Memorial Service at St Michael and All Angels Church in South Shields, which this year was attended by almost 500 people.

For those unable to attend the service, the firm has a memorial Christmas tree in each of its offices in South Shields and Sunderland, which allows people to hang tags which recall a special moment or memory.

Donation boxes were also put in each branch in support of PJF’s chosen charities, the Great North Air Ambulance, and Northumbria Blood Bikes.

In total, 150 memory tags were collected, raising £300, and altogether, a total of £1,300 was raised. A cheque of £500 has already been presented to each of the chosen charities.

Managing director Peter Johnson said: “It is important for us to think of new ways that we can help our customers, and also support the local community. We hold the annual memorial service to help families come to terms with their loss, and it is a wonderful opportunity for us to renew our friendships with the families we hope we have helped during what is a very difficult and emotional time.

“It’s important for families to keep their loved ones alive in their hearts, celebrating them and honouring them.”

As Partners with the Custom House’s pantomime, they took along guests to see Alice in Wonderland and also donated £500 to the theatre.
