South Shields man jailed for robbing woman in her 60s

A man has been jailed for more than two years after a woman was robbed in South Shields.

A 63-year-old woman was injured in a robbery in the town's Reynolds Avenue on July 25 last year.

During the incident she was dragged into a wall and her bag stolen. She suffered moderate injuries.

Neil Daniel Mckay, 45 of Turner Avenue in South Shields was arrested and charged with robbery.

Mckay appeared at Newcastle Crown Court on Monday and was sentenced to 30 months.

Superintendent Sarah Pitt said: "Mckay targeted his victim in broad daylight causing her to not only be shaken by the incident but suffer physical injuries and while these could have been much worse we simple will not tolerate people like this causing harm in our communities.

"I'm pleased he will now spend time in prison for his actions."
