South Shields primary school makes it mark again

Hadrian Primary School in Baring Street is one of the few mainstream primary schools in the North of England to have the Inclusion Quality Mark and following successful reassessment, has once again been recognised for the inclusive work they do. The school is also being put forward to become an ‘IQM Centre of Excellence’, to support and work alongside other schools.

Educational inclusion is about equal opportunities for all pupils, whatever their age, gender, ethnicity, attainment or background.

The assessment involved looking at all aspects of the way the school provides opportunities for and supports children to access the curriculum, as well as the work they do with parents and carers.

Laura Smith, Inclusion Mark Assessor, said: “The inclusive ethos is tangible and every child and family is valued for who they are and respected for what they can contribute to the school.”

Annette McStea, Inclusion Manager, said: “For the second time we have been awarded the Inclusion Quality Mark.

“Pupils, parents, staff, governors and the local community have yet again demonstrated their whole-hearted commitment to inclusion. I am pleased to say that our report is an outstanding reflection of our hard work and efforts.”

Scott Brown, headteacher, said: “I am delighted that the hard work and dedication of staff has been recognised by this prestigious award.

“Teachers work incredibly hard to ensure that we provide an interesting, stimulating and accessible curriculum for all of our children.”
