South Shields theatre gears up for half-term holiday shows

Theatre bosses in South Tyneside are aiming to put on a real whow for the half-term holidays.

The Customs House, in Mill Dam, South Shields, will be hosting a number of family friendly entertainment for children of all ages.

The programme includes the Russian National Ballet’s production of Swan Lake, the contemporary-style dance spectacular MK Ultra, Halloween Pantomime of Hocus Panto and Lyngo’s Theatre’s adaptation of the English folk tale, Tom Thumb.

Following last year’s sell out show of The Nutcracker, the Russian National Ballet will be returing to the customs house to perform Tchaikovsky’s world famous Swan Lake on Monday, October 22.

Performances will take palce at 2:30pm and 7:30pm.

MK Ultra is a show which explores the conspiracy of mind control hidden in plain sight, bringing together the avant-garde to the forefront of the mainstream to create a world beyond truth or fiction.

It will be a showstopping performance full of bright lights, superhuman dancing and pounding music.

Its creator, Rosie Kay, is one of the UK’s leading female choreographers - best-known for the five-star award-winning 5 SOLDERS, as well as choreographing the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the Scottish musical film Sunshine of Leith.

The show is recommended for over-14s and will take place at 7:30pm on Tuesday, October 23.

Hocus Panto is based on the Disney classic film starring Bette Midler, and will be performed at 1.30pm and 6pm on Wednesday, October 24.

This Halloween show features witches, magical illusion, pop songs and things that go bump in the night.

The old English folk tale Tom Thumb is being revamped and specially adapted for a younger audience, and features CBeebies star Patrick Lynch.

The performances will be on Friday October, 26 at 11am and 2pm.

Witchcraft is the main theme for the Mini Maker and Mega Maker activities, which are run by the learning and participation team at the Customs Couse this half term.

The arts and craft sessions will take place from 11am to 1.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm, respectively on Monday, October, 22.

Mini Maker sessions will be running for under-11s to attend on a drop-in basis with grown-ups, while the mega maker sessions will run for 11 to 13-year-olds to attend on their own, with last entries being at 2.45pm.

The cost for these activities will be £2 per child.
