South Tyneside firm gives businesses the low-down on asbestos safety
Les Cooper will help business from across the North East play it safe.
Les, the owner and managing director of UK Asbestos Specialist Ltd, is to address a Tyneside seminar next month.
The Hebburn firm, known as UKasl, has trained more than half a million workers in the dangers of asbestos in the last seven years alone.
UKasl helps a range of regional, national and international companies to comply with statutory duties relating to the protection of workers from the hazards of asbestos.
Courses have all undergone stringent approvals and audits and are fully approved by RoSPA, IATP and other recognised asbestos training associations as well as the international ACCREDITAT organisation.
Les is to speak at a Health and Safety Law and Best Practice seminar run by Weightman Associates and Womble Bond Dickinson on Thursday, May 10, at the law firm’s St Anne’s Wharf premises in Newcastle.
Organiser John Grant, of Weightman Associates, said: “We’re delighted Les will be joining us for the event and I’m sure people will be interested in what he has to say.

“We’ve been doing some work with UKasl and Les made a big impression – he’s such a character – and I’m sure his talk will be both informative and entertaining.”
Les added: “The law on managing asbestos is very clear, but people and organisations can be confused about what you can and can’t do and what you should and shouldn’t do.
“At UKasl, we keep things simple and talk to organisations in a language they understand – and that’s what I’ll be doing at the seminar on May 10.
“Over the years various myths about asbestos and its handling have built up and I think it’s vital that organisations know what they’re doing – and what the law is – as far as asbestos is concerned.
“It is responsible for more than 5,000 deaths every year so you can see how dangerous it can be and how important it is to know what you’re doing when handling or removing the substance.”
Other sessions at the seminar will include an update on health and safety legislation and a session on personal resilience at work.
