Plans submitted for home-based dog grooming business in South Tyneside.

Plans for a new home-based dog grooming business in a South Tyneside street have been submitted to council development bosses.

The borough council's planning department has received an application for a property at 4 Owen Drive in the West Boldon area.

Plans for ‘dog grooming facility’

Plans are seeking permission to use a single-storey outbuilding as a "dog grooming facility."

An applicant statement submitted to council officials provides details of the proposed business and states that if approved, future clients would need to make an appointment.

It was noted that there would be a "maximum of five customers per day who can park on the existing drive for drop off/collection".

On customer numbers, those behind the business acknowledged "there may be as little as none some days as it is a supply on demand type of business".

The supporting statement added: "There will be a one in one out on customers with a gap big enough so there is no overlap with one dog being dropped off before the previous appointment is collected. Also, this allows time to clean between dogs.

"Again, due to the nature of the job some dogs may take longer than others which means that the daily number of appointments will vary to a maximum of five per day."

A submitted planning application states the development has not started and lists proposed opening hours of 9am-6pm, Monday to Saturday.

Planning decision expected

The planning application adds there will be no business opening on Sundays and bank holidays and notes one full-time employee is proposed.

A decision on the planning application is expected following a council consultation exercise.
