Pupils at Westoe Crown Primary School, South Shields, took part in a fitness competition to raise money for the charity which helps disadvantaged children and young people in communities across the UK.

As part of the unique fundraising initiative, children from Year 1 and Year 2 were challenged to score the highest points on the Fire Fly Reaction game throughout the week.

The game is part of the new playground exercise equipment donated by local company Play Fitness.

The highest scoring boy and girl then challenged each other when they played the game for the finale on Thursday.

The pair then had both their points matched to pounds by Play Fitness.

Paul Fairley from the company said: “We think it’s great what the kids are doing, raising money for children in need.

She said: “It’s great that the children have been able to help the school raise money for children in need.”

Funds raised from the event are still in the process of being counted.
